Incomplete separation of the embryonic axes

The cleavage of the embryonic primordium in a late stage of development can lead to an incomplete separation of the embryonic axes. This incomplete separation of the embryonic disk results in "monstrous double formations". Depending on the location and degree of the deformities, they are classified as thoracophagus, craniopagus or pygopagus.
