Usually, an amniocentesis is performed after the 15th week of pregnancy ambulantly and transabdominally with continuous supervision with ultrasound.
In this procedure 10-15 ml of amniotic fluid are taken and the fetal cells found therein are cultivated. The result is available in 8 days.
